Summary: A comprehensive theoretical review about characteristics and consequences observed in secondary school students involved in bullying situations as victims and/or as bully-victims is presented. Eighty-six national and international scientific contributions published between 2000 and 2017 have been analyzed. Victimization consequences experienced by victims have been one of the most studied aspects in recent years, especially at international level, while bully-victim role has received so far less attention, both in terms of their profile and the impact of their involvement. Studying characteristics and consequences of both actors can allow us a better understanding of this phenomenon, its dynamics and the overlapping of roles from a criminological perspective. It also facilitates the early identification of high-risk groups and helps to guide prevention and intervention actions.
