Summary: We intend to recognize laboral conditions of prison personnel in Argentina during the COVID-19 pandemic, considering their possibilities of work in this context. To do so, we carry out a bibliographic review of local studies on pre-existing problems in their workplaces, that is, prison institutions. We found that these are marked by high levels of overcrowding, due to a sustained increase in prison overpopulation. Also, that institutions present handicaps to appropriate treatment programs, which violates the rights of the prison population such as health, social relationship, education and recreation. In turn, this has an impact on the achievement of the expected social objectives, which is why contradictions are produced that hinder the effectiveness of prison treatment and an adequate application of the institutional function. To understand this phenomenon, we use the conception of anomie proposed by Durkheim and the theoretical elaborations to which it supports. Based on these results, we seek to understand how the context of the pandemic deepened these problems.
