The past has become more accessible thanks to the archeological advances and the methodological and historical innovations, such as the increased legitimating of oral history, interdisciplinary testing and the acceptance of a more reflexive historical sensitivity. The word trauma has become the entry point to allegedly authentic memories for those memories that are sculpted by trauma have altered modern methods of historicism analysis. The purpose of this paper is to examine the increased importance of memory and traumatic memory in political and cultural discourses.El tema de la memoria ha penetrado proprogresivamente el lenguaje para apuntalar reclamos y reivindicaciones de individuos, víctimas y grupos sociales, en la obtención del reconocimiento o la compensación. El pasado se torna más disponible y multifacético gracias a los avances arqueológicos e historiográficos y a las innovaciones metodológicas como la creciente legitimación de la historia oral y la experimentación interdisciplinaria, y también el surgimiento de una sensibilidad histórica más reflexiva. La categoría �trauma� se ha convertido en punto de entrada hacia formas supuestamente �auténticas� de memoria, pues desde este punto de vista, aquellas memorias moldeadas por el trauma serían capaces de subvertir más eficientemente formas modernas, totalizantes de historicismo.
