The Police Law is analyzed from the social perspective but having into account that as it is a set of norms at national, departmental and district level it is in charge of regulating both the state function oriented to assure its existence in the internal order and to protect the people's integrity in their lives, honour and property and on the other hand regulate human behaviour with the aim of preventing the abuse of liberty in detriment of the collective and the exercise of the rights of others.Este artículo presenta parte de los resultados de una investigación realizada en la ciudad de Barranquilla (Colombia), con el objetivo de interpretar sociológicamente el comportamiento contravencional de los barranquilleros a partir de la actitud ciudadana frente al ordenamiento mismo, y de esta forma establecer la eficacia jurídica de las normas policivas como estatuto de convivencia ciudadana.
