Summary: The excellent work that I have the pleasure of reviewing came to me as do almost all the books I read; by mere chance while wandering in the aisles of a bookstore. The image on the cover captivated me: a work by Banksy in which a girl searches a soldier. The title is no less striking: “Contra el punitivismo, una crítica a las recetas de la mano dura” (Against punitivism, a critique of heavy-handed recipes). The work is written in simple language but endowed with a broad empirical and dogmatic foundation. Its author is, above all, a lawyer, in the highest sense of the term, that is, she is dedicated to advocating, to intervening in favor of others, and, in this case, of those who constitute one of the most vulnerable population groups of our society: men and women deprived of their liberty and, in general, those who are passive subjects of punitive power.
