The Global Compact is the first inter-governmentally negotiated agreement, prepared under the auspices of the United Nations, covering all dimensions of international migration in a holístic and comprehensive manner. lt is a non-binding document that respects states' sovereign rjght to determine who enters and stays in their territory and demonstrates commitment to international cooperation on migration. lt presents a significant opportunity to improve the governance of gration, to address the challenges associated with today's migration, and to strengthen the contribution of migrants and migration to sustainable development This paper analyses the content of this Global Compact, especially its guiding principles, objectives and actions, highlighting its strengths and weaknesses.El 10 de diciembre de 2018 con la adopción del Pacto Mundial por la mayoría de los Estados Miembros de la ONU en una Conferencia Intergubernamental en Marrakech, Marruecos, se produjo un hecho relevante en el ámbito de la política migratoria a nivel mundial. El Pacto Mundial es el primer acuerdo negociado intergubernamentalmente, elaborado bajo los auspicios de las Naciones Unidas, que cubre todas las dimensiones de la migración internacional de manera integral y holística. Es un documento no vinculante que respeta el derecho soberano de los estados a determinar quién ingresa y permanece en su territorio y demuestra compromiso con la cooperación internacional en materia de migración. Presenta una importante oportunidad para mejorar la gobernanza de la migración, abordar los desafíos asociados con la migración actual y fortalecer la contribución de los migrantes y la migración al desarrollo sostenible.
