Summary: The article starts with the most recent political campaigns and addresses the operation of parallel structures in the electoral funding system in Costa Rica. Through these examples, the main characteristics of these illegal mechanisms are synthesized, as well as the features that make these strategies adverse the electoral system rules and the political and legal implications that they reflect in the party system of the country. Finally, the article shows some of the regulatory guidelines that are proper and applicable to this type of funding structures, the sanctioning responses of the legal system and the pivotal points of the procedural phase of investigation and sanctions during the development of the electoral campaign
