They constitute a risk to human and animal health and are considered a public health problem. The objective of this article is to recognize what a mycotoxin is and the damage it can cause in humans. Material and Method: A bibliographic review of articles from sources such as Scielo, Redalyc and specialized authors, among others, was carried out, 32 articles were obtained, of which 18 were considered for this article. Conclusion: considering the potential risk they have when consuming foods that could be precursors to diseases such as cancer. The potential health risk of mycotoxins is discussedLas micotoxicosis involucra un amplio grupo de intoxicaciones causadas por la inhalación, el contacto directo o la ingestión de alimentos que han sido contaminados con micotoxinas, las cuales son metabolitos tóxicos producidos por una gran variedad de hongos filamentosos, constituyen un problema en el ámbito mundial por su alta incidencia en los alimentos. Constituyen un riesgo para la salud humana y animal siendo considerado como una problemática de salud pública. El objetivo del presente artículo es reconocer lo que es una micotoxina y el daño que puede causar en los seres humanos. Material y Método: Se realizó una revisión bibliográfica de artículos de fuentes como Scielo, Redalyc y autores especializados entre otros, se obtuvieron 32 artículos de los cuales se consideraron 18 para realizar este artículo. Conclusión: Considerando el potencial riesgo que tienen al consumir alimentos que podrían ser precursores de enfermedades como el cáncer.
