Summary: The reconstruction of historical truth is one of the structural pillars of transitional justice. In Colombia, the possibility to implement a truth commission has been discussed by the international scholars and by Colombian civil society, having considered it as an actual option to overcome the internal armed conflict without having it come to pass. Although other mechanisms have been privileged to reconstruct the truth, in 2012, an amendment to the Constitution finally ordered the creation of a truth commission. Through recent history and comparative experience, this paper analyzes the relevance of implementing this measure at the Colombian context.
