How can we build bridges between legal history and history of society in terms of research methods and problems? Understanding law as the juridical dimension of social phenomena, Sbriccoli argues that law cannot be subsidiary in certain research on social practices and that legal historians cannot isolate themselves, they should desdisciplinarize themselves, while maintaining the autonomy of the area, in order to dialogue with history of society, so that an effective exchange can take place. In short, “it is necessary to become bilingual to live and operate in a world that is structurally bilingual”.Conferência pronunciada em abril de 1985 no contexto das discussões em torno das relações entre história e ciências sociais promovida pela chamada escola dos Annales. Como construir pontes entre a história do direito e a história da sociedade em termos de métodos e problemas de pesquisa? Entendendo o direito como a dimensão jurídica de fenômenos sociais, Sbriccoli defende que o direito não pode ser algo subsidiário em certas pesquisas sobre práticas sociais e que os historiadores do direito não podem se isolar, desdisciplinarizando-se, embora mantendo a autonomia da área, para dialogar com a história da sociedade, de modo que possa acontecer um efetivo intercâmbio.
