Summary: The purpose of this article is to examine the meaning and implications of the expressions “Communitarian State” and “State of opinion”, used by president Álvaro Uribe Vélez in several speeches and communications. According to the author, both formulas are clearly contrary to the Social State of Law established by the Political Constitution of 1991, and they have be used in diverse occasions by the President as non juridical alternatives to elude boundaries imposed by Law. All of this has brought as a consequence the initiation an unspoken process of redefinition of the State’s model.
