Summary: AbstractObjective: To describe the process for the achievement of women’s suffrage in Colombia that began in the late ‘30s and recount the numerous avatars that were faced women to get the opportunity to participate in political reserved spaces exclusively for men. This research shows the beginnings of the insurgent voices that led the way to the political emancipation of women. Methodology: This is a historical research that goes to multiple documents scattered in the extensive archive of many sources in which it is spread. The analysis addresses categories such as gender, the liberal republic and political participation. Results: the women’s movement since before the thirties, have lucid characters who were able to face the patriarchy and gender discrimination. Conclusions: the woman has gained increasing the possibility of political participation, among other things because the policy has spread to the private sphere.
