Following an integrative perspective as proposed by Turner (2010), who notes that a subject is contacted with a social reality in terms of a number of social factors (macro-dynamic) and individual (micro-dynamics), it is intended to highlight those factors social and individual who are exercising influence on the immersion of a person to drug trafficking as a life option. The analysis starts of the main theoretical contributions of social research conducted in the Mexican context in relation to drug trafficking, whose conclusions agree that it is necessary an analysis that amalgamates the effect of both contextual and individual factors in decision makingEste artículo tiene como objetivo discutir las perspectivas y nociones teóricas con las que el fenómeno del narcotráfico es analizado. Siguiendo una perspectiva integradora como la propuesta por Turner (2010), quien destaca que un sujeto se pone en contacto con una realidad social en función de una serie de factores sociales (macrodinámica) y de factores individuales (microdinámica), se pretende destacar aquellos factores sociales e individuales que ejercen influencia en la inmersión al narcotráfico como opción de vida.
