Interpersonal violence is related to animal abuse. When animal abuse used to be trivialized by people saying: "It's only a dog" or "boys will be boys", researchers and experts now recognize that cruelty, abuse or neglect to be taken seriously. Animal abuse is often "tip of the iceberg" and the first warning sign of an individual or family problems. Recognizing the link between animal abuse and other forms of violence in the family, it provides professionals in all fields a tool to prevent violence in our society. By working together and sharing this information with others, it will raise public awareness and in turn, increase the involvement and effectiveness in preventing family violence and abuse in all its forms.El abuso de niños y jóvenes hacia colectivos vulnerables merece toda nuestra atención, por ello incidimos en que los animales son un colectivo vulnerable de primer orden. La violencia interpersonal está relacionada con el maltrato animal. Cuando el maltrato animal solía ser trivializado por la gente diciendo: "Es sólo un perro" o "los chicos son chicos", los investigadores y expertos reconocen ahora que la crueldad, maltrato o negligencia en cualquier forma deben tomarse en serio. El maltrato animal es a menudo "la punta del iceberg" y la primera señal de advertencia de un individuo o familia en problemas. Reconociendo el vínculo entre el maltrato animal y otras formas de violencia en la familia, se proporciona a los profesionales en todos los campos una herramienta más para prevenir la violencia en nuestra sociedad.
