Summary: This article shows the importance of legal tradition and the organization of the judicial system: recruitment, warranties of immobility, budget and salary requirements may be greater or lessindependent of the judiciary. Finally, the study concludes that despite a number of regulatory safeguards aimed at preserving the independence of judges in Colombia, this is very variable, and depends ultimately on the will of the executive.
