This presentation, together with the opinion of the síndico procurador and discussion chapter, and the resulting regulations do not concern only the just retribution but, above all, the domestic order and legal order of the city, as the subject on under discussion, ultimately, is as much about the condition of freedom of the gente de servicio to choose where to work, as the possibility of interference by the Cabildo in a domestic matter. The aim of this study is to observe social considerations on the domestic work of the gente de servicio o bajo pueblo from the discussion chapter of San Miguel de Tucuman and legal projections for this city.En 1794, el Defensor de Naturales de San Miguel de Tucumán hizo una presentación ante el Cabildo exponiendo la situación de desvalimiento de las criadas y solicitando que la justicia les provea amparo, señalando el salario que les corresponda y que sus patrones estén obligados a cumplir. Esta presentación, juntamente con el dictamen del síndico procurador y las discusiones capitulares, así como la reglamentación resultante, no atañen sólo a la justa retribución sino, sobre todo, al orden doméstico y al orden jurídico de la ciudad, ya que el tema sobre el que se está discutiendo, en última instancia, es tanto sobre la condición de libertad de la gente de servicio para elegir dónde trabajar, como sobre la posibilidad de injerencia del Cabildo en una cuestión doméstica.
