It is analyzed the role of the Catholic Church as the only religious group with real legal significance in the international society. It also delves into the issues raised by the international legal personality of the Holy See, whom has a daily intervention in international diplomatic relations which they are exerted towards the States and the international organizations. The Holy See also participates in international conferences and she also sign concordats or agreements with States with the legal status of international treaties. It is also analyzed the work of papal international mediation and peace promotion. Indeed, throughout History, the international activity of the Catholic Church is directed both spiritual and political issues, in our time, it is also directed towards the protection of human rights, the promotion of peace and development cooperation, and Holy See is constituted as a moral reference for all other subjects of international society. In addition, the study is also extended to other Catholic entities operating in international society, like the State of the Vatican City and the Sovereign Order of Malta

Se incide también en su labor de mediación internacional y en favor de la paz. En efecto, a lo largo de la Historia, la actividad internacional de la Iglesia se ha dirigido tanto a cuestiones espirituales como políticas; en nuestro tiempo, su labor se dirige también hacia la protección de los Derechos Humanos, la promoción de la paz y la cooperación para el desarrollo, configurándose como un referente moral para el resto de sujetos de la sociedad internacional.
