Summary: This paper will be a description about informed consentin the exercise of medical activity; this description willbe done in the sentences of some courts as the Constitutional Court, the Supreme Court of Justice and the Council State corporations that have somehow expanded the concept of informed consent and its functionality in the medical field. For this article we will star with a brief history of informedconsent, and ethical and regulatory developmentin the twentieth century for both medical care andscientific research in humans. Also synthetically, we willreview some court rulings that have deepened over theissue of informed consent, and how this figure in recenttimes has been becoming a focus of attention and studieswithin the exercise of medical activity in Colombia.And finally we will conclude with a description ofimportant factors that has been held to be taken into account when giving information to a patient and obtain consent.
