Summary: The legal articulation of the right to family life in immigration law is governed by a restrictive logic whose scope implies a real metamorphosis of family relationships. On the one hand, Law combines nuclear and dependent composition to promote an ideal dominant type of family that is openly excluding other family realities existing in the society. And on the other hand, it neutralizes the diversity of family environment modulating other forms of recognition in order to achieve a family model preferably non-conflicting. From a critical approach, this paper is focused on the true scope of the family reunification rules provided for the current Spanish immigration law according to those indicators of transformation concerning the legal protection of migrant families and development of family life in multicultural societies.
