Summary: This paper attempts to analyze the proper meaning of the new political representation that arose from the idea of national sovereignty in the first Spanish Constitution, and the electoral process designed in the Spanish Constitution of Cadiz. To this end, we are going to consider the concrete example of a particular Spanish province, the one of Jaén, which electoral processes, election results, provincial representatives for the National Courts, and parliamentary activity of these representatives, will be studied in detail during the state of being in force of the first Spanish Constitution (1810-1814 and 1820-1823).
