Summary: In this study, the question of the boundaries and extension of the maritime zones under Brazilian sovereignty and jurisdiction is analyzed. In Brazilian law, the area comprised by the extension of the Brazilian Territory Sea (12 miles), plus the ZEE (188 miles), and the extension of the Continental Shelf is called the "Amazônia Azul" (Blue Amazonia). Brazil presented to the United Nations Organization (UNO) a proposal to extend the boundaries of the Continental Shelf and could be the first country in the world to have its proposal accepted. Therefore, the repercussions of the extension of the Amazônia Azul are analyzed.
