In this paper we shall examine the role of the work of the Independent Expert on the issue of human rights obligations related to access to safe drinking water and sanitation, commissioned in 2008, and whose mandate has been renewed in 2011 as Special Rapporteur on the human right to safe drinking water and sanitation has had in the development of this right.En los últimos años se ha ido desarrollando una visión del problema de la falta de acceso al agua potable y al saneamiento que sufren millones de personas en el mundo desde una perspectiva de derechos humanos, culminando en el ámbito internacional con el reconocimiento del derecho al agua y al saneamiento por la Asamblea General y el Consejo de Derechos Humanos en 2010.
