Summary: This article deals with the problem of information for consumers, from an economic, legal, and social point of view, by proposing that, as the characteristics of goods, services, and products scale up in complexity, information requirements in regulation for "ordinary" consumers -who make decisions on consumption of goods and services- also do it; ?? financial consumers purchasing financial products and services; and consumer investors, that are both, financial consumers and investors in the securities market. At the same time, the article concludes that, the greatest information requirements for producers and suppliers, financial institutions and issuers of securities (and their reputational agents), in each case, have no equivalent in consumers' responsibilities, thus questioning the effectiveness of regulation and drawing attention about the need for consumer's education policies in all scales.
