The centralization of both civil and electoral facts facilitates automatic registration procedures and benefits political participation, due to citizen carrying out one only proceeding in order to obtain a civil and an electoral identity card.Una de las características más notables del sistema electoral costarricense es la depuración diaria de su registro electoral, la cual obedece a un procedimiento automático de inscripción y exclusión electoral y a la existencia de un único documento de identificación, tanto electoral como civil (cédula de identidad). Este documento lo expide el Registro Civil del Tribunal Supremo de Elecciones.
