Within this line of thought, the article proposes a paradox that states that as it becomes increasingly important to strengthen integration processes between the Andean countries, its own integration initiative, CAN, becomes more and more undermined. This is due to the lack of legitimacy on the part of Andean institutions and to the intergovernmental character that prevails when it comes to decision making processes.El trabajo se divide en dos partes. La primera trata la relación entre integración e instituciones, y la segunda la relación entre integración y mundialización. En este sentido, la hipótesis que se prueba en el trabajo se propone como una paradoja: cuando más necesario se hace fortalecer el proceso de integración entre los países andinos, más precaria se torna la existencia de la CAN.
