For Alexy, the balance about the reach of the practical speech in general, the following of the rules and forms of argument can add to the probabilities of reaching agreement in the practical field, but do not guarantee an agreement in every field possible, also, that any agreement reached would last forever. Thomas Aquinas would say that it couldn�t be other way around , because the human nature is mutable but it does not changes its essence.Coinciden Robert Alexy y Tomás de Aquino en que sobre los hablantes gravitan simultáneamente las exigencias mínimas de todos los grupos de reglas que gobiernan las relaciones intersubjetivas y las formas argumentativas que pretenden la corrección y transparencia del discurso. Para Alexy, haciendo un balance sobre el alcance del discurso práctico general, el seguimiento de las reglas y formas de argumento aumentan la probabilidad de lograr un acuerdo en las cuestiones prácticas, pero no garantizan el que pueda obtenerse un acuerdo para cada cuestión, ni el que cualquier acuerdo alcanzado sea definitivo e irrevocable.
