AB  - The protection of Genetic Resources and Traditional Knowledge is discussed in different fora, such as WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organization) and CBD (Convention on Biological Resources), as there are patents related to biodiversity and to traditional knowledge associated to genetic resources.

WIPO started in 2001 an �Intergovernmental Committee on Intellectual Property and Genetic Resources, Traditional Knowledge and Folklore� (IGC) which, nowadays, has the new mandate to negotiate a international instrument for the protection of traditional knowledge, traditional cultural expressions and genetic resourses.
