Laburpena: Victim-Offender mediation is still in an initial implementation phase in Spain. From a legislative point of view, the first example of Victim-Offender mediation in Spanish law appeared in the ambit of juvenile justice, in the Ley Orgánica de Responsabilidad Penal del Menor, in 2000. This law introduces the Victim-Offender mediation for first time, and that point makes interesting studying it, not only analyzing its characteristics but also making a comparison with the equivalent legislation in the United Kingdom, where the legislative tradition is quite different, and finally making an assessment of how such institution can be extended to cover the ambit of adult criminal justice, as far as legislation is concerned, given that in Spain this practice is already a reality.
