AB  - The new communication technologies are having a serious impact in the tourist sector of the economy. Individuals are now the planners of their travels, they buy the tickets directly, they make reservations, and so on. As a consequence, new forms of lodging, leaving out the classic hotels, are strongly emerging. To see if this new situation is affecting, in the very short run, the construction of new hotels in the Mediterranean side of Europe, is the topic of this paper.
