Arnaldo Gabaldón" YR - 2006 UL - http://biblioteca.ararteko.eus/Record/dialnet-ar-18-ART0000141381 AB - Objective: To evaluate the relationship between reported dysphonia and potential risk factors among primary school teachers. Methods: A cross-sectional study in a population of teachers from 47 municipal primary schools in Porto Alegre, RS., conducted between April and May of 2003. Three hundred eighty-five teachers were surveyed through a questionaire. Conclusion: Results showed that 53.8% of these teachers described themselves as being dysphonic. Although age and loud noise were significantly associated with self-reported dysphonia, it cannot be denied that other variables reflected adverse working conditions. These findings indicate that these teachers are overworked, labor in an unfavorable work environment and lack proper vocal training for their professional practice.
