Laburpena: Since Spain joined the European Union there have been observed positive effects on the economic and social systems in this country. The analysis of these effects have special interest when applied at the regional level. Because of the administrative decentralisation of Spain, the role of the autonomic governments in the modernisation processes results in different ways of implementation in each case. Andalusia, a region showing strong limitations and deficits for development, has been the primary destination of the EU structural funds within Spain. This work presents an overview of the main economical aspects that has been observed in Andalusia throughout the joining process to the EU. Among those, the public transfers from the EU, the gross regional product, the employment and consumption tendencies are analysed. As a conclusion of all the above subjects, the convergence process of the region will be discussed.
