Laburpena: The recent discussions on the reform of Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) have been focused on feasible reforms compatible with trade liberalisation and farming viability. Agenda 2000 reform, whose main objectives are competitiveness and multifunctionality of agriculture, will be undoubtedly in the discussions of the forthcoming WTO negotiations. Determining the functions provided by agriculture in each region allows choosing the right policy instrument. In this paper, we analyse the economic effects of some alternative policy scenarios of market prices and direct payments in Campiña Baja of Córdoba (Spain), a high productivity agricultural area.
