Laburpena: In this paper, the incidence of economic growth and redistribution of income over the evolution of poverty indexes in Andalusia between 1981 and 1991 is analised, distinguishing between rural and urban areas. For this purpose, the Dagum triparametric model is adjusted to the empirical income distributions, the Foster, Greer and Thorbecke poverty indexes and the growth and redistribution elasticities are estimated, and the observed change in the poverty indexes is decomposed in three components: growth, redistribution and residual. The main results indicate that poverty has decreased more in the rural areas than in the urban ones, showing more weight the growth component in both areas.
