Laburpena: Focusing the concrete articulation between global processes and local socio-economic effects in the fishing village of Barbate, the first part of this reading summarizes, on one hand, the main guidelines of fishing markets globalisation process; on the other hand, both the geo-politic realm for the European Union and Magreb relationships, and the Fishing Policy designed by European Union. The second part is devoted to analyse some of the effects motivated by those politics and to point out the consequences upon the relationships capital/labour (boatowners and sailors) and upon the economic organization within the harvesting sector. We pay special attention to some social groups concerned by these politics: the pensioners and the youth population, who belong to fishing sector.
